This week my students are learning about the moon phases. This can be a hard concept for third graders, so I am trying to come up with fun ideas to get them thinking. Today the students worked with a buddy and created the moon phases using Oreo cookies. My students first had to label their plates with the names of the moon phases. Setting up the plate helped when the students were cutting the Oreos.
After the students wrote out the moon phases I gave them Oreos and set them free! Their end results were awesome! Some of the students mixed up third quarter and first quarter, but that is okay. We used this tiny mistake as a learning experience.
