Happy Mother's Day 2017

Happy Mother's Day to all of our hard working moms!

This year I had my kindergarteners make the most adorable craft! I am very excited to show how we made them and how easy they were! I hope all of our moms love them as much as I do. I wanted to keep them for myself.

Step 1: Take the kiddos pictures so it looks like they are blowing a kiss. I had them face sideways and I took the picture from the front.
Step 2: Cut out all of the students pictures so it is just them blowing the kiss. No background. I just found some good movies to watch and did a few every night. It was done in no time. I used an         X-ACTO knife to cut around. I felt it would be easier then using scissors. I think you could use whatever you are comfortable with.
Step 3: Paint small poster board to have a background to glue your picture on to. I chose blue paint for everyone. It was easier to not give them a choice. The students painted the background blue.
Step 4: Glue the pictures onto the blue paper. I used Mod Podge because I know it always words well for me. The kids pictures were printed on thick card stock, so the glue did not wrinkle the paper.

Step 5: Cut out the hearts that the kids can glue onto their papers. I am a crafty person so I happened to already own heart punches. i just punched out the hearts in advance for the kinders. If I was working with older kiddos, I would let them use the punches. A few of my co-workers did this craft as well, but they used foam heart stickers and regular heart stickers. Use what you have.

Step 6: Give the kiddos time to glue their hearts onto their posters. Every student got 12 hearts to glue onto their posters. I let them glue them anyway they wanted. It was really cool to see that all 22 of their posters turned out differently. I did mark of with paper where they should put the hearts. This was so no glue got on their pictures. Kindergarteners can be messy.

Step 7: Let them Dry completely!
Step 8: I laminated mine because the kiddos worked so hard on them I wanted them to be kept safe!

Step 9: We wrapped them up in paper bags from the grocery store and they were all ready for their moms!

Here are all of our finished projects!

State Testing Poster

Every year the older grades take SOL tests. We try to get the kiddos pumped up and excited to take these tests. One of the things my school does is buddy up. Then we create encouraging posters for our buddies and post them throughout the school.  My students have 5th grade reading buddies, so we created a poster for them!

My favorite book is the Hunger Games so I decided to go with a Hunger Games theme. My Kindergarteners obviously didn't understand the book reference, but they did not care at all. They were so excited to make something for their buddies. They told me they wanted to make a bunch of posters for them, but for now, we are sticking with just one.

I started out by downloading the Hunger Games font from the internet. I printed and cut out all of the letters we were going to need.

Then I had the kiddos help me glue the letters down and make sure we had enough room to glue our mockingjays.

The kiddos colored their own mockingjay and then we glued them to the poster as well.

They were extremely excited with the final result of the poster! We hung it up and they can't wait for their buddies to see what they created!

End of Quarter Awards

My students work so hard and I felt like the deserved cute awards at the end of the quarter. I made an award for homework completion, attendance, and honor roll.

I am very excited to give these awards out with our report cards. I know the kiddos are going to love them!

Read Across America Week

HAPPY DR. SEUSS WEEK!

Monday- Fox in Socks Day
After reading Fox in Socks with the kiddos they created their own Fox puppets. I got the idea from HERE !
The kiddos loved making them and definitely enjoyed using their puppets to retell the story.

Tuesday- The Cat in the Hat Day

I used the app called The Doctor Seuss Camera. It is $.99 in the app store. There is a variety of options and I thought it was definitely worth the $.99. Click here for more information. After taking the students pictures I printed them out and glued them onto the writing prompt from my TPT store. If the Cat in the Hat came to your house, how would you get him to leave? Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday
My students absolutely loved Wacky Wednesday! Some of them told me it was the best day ever. My coworker and I made shirts for our whole team, then we decided to make our own tutu to go with the shirts. I designed these shirts myself and they are on Sale in my TPT store. It is very easy to make the shirts! We bought them on sale at AC Moore. We purchased the transfer paper. We printed the design on the transfer paper, cut, then ironed! Super simple! See below for a preview of the other shirts I designed that are included in my TPT document as well.

I decided I wanted my students to have thing shirts as well, but I did not have the money to purchase them shirts. Instead I made them each a necklace. They wore them all day and we got a class picture! These were Free on TPT.

Thursday- Green Eggs and Ham Day
Today we celebrated with my own version of green eggs and ham. Every student loved it and we ate every last drop! I made instant vanilla pudding and I put green food dye into it. I purchased a box of Nilla Wafers and used them as the "yolk".

My Team purchased T-shirts for today. We purchased them from SunFrog. They say,"I will be a Kindergarten teacher here or there. I will be a Kindergarten teacher anywhere."

Friday- Sleep Book Day
I decided to make today more like a sleepover day. We started our day with some reading, then we watched The Lorax on Youtube. We watched the original because it is only about 30 minutes long. While the students watched their "movie" we had popcorn and water!

Later in the day we decided to have fun and the students all decorated their own sugar cookie!

I know my students had a wonderful Read Across America Week! I am excited to celebrate again next year!
